Avionics Master/Electric Gyros

Post by Don Boardman » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:04 am

Hi Mike,

We do not have a Avionics Master Switch for our Moose (Agree with Electric
Bob's philosophy). Did have one on my CH701 and it was feed via the main bus
so when the master was off all electric items where off except for the
always hot bus, Clock and CD player keep alive.
Guess I'll think about
putting the avionics switch on the other side of the main bus switch and
accept spinning up the gyros.
We have decided to put our electric gyros on a switch. The master can be
turned on for Radio, GPS use etc. and the gyro's are off. We are using a two
pole three position 2 dash10 switch from Bob's book. Down is off, middle
will bring in the Horizon and the top will add on the DG. This configuration
allows us to keep the Horizon (moving the switch to the middle position) on
and the DG off if we need to conserve power if our main alt is out and we
are on the back-up 8 amp alt. Not having the gyros on the master also lets
us pick the time to bring them on line. They need to be caged and I'd like
to do that at my convenience. I know the switch is a potential point of
failure. This is not an IFR ship.

Regards,
Don B.
