Brake geometry kit

Post by Terry Dazey » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:50 pm

Thanks for the information Ralph. The brake geometry mod looks like a good
"fix". I hadn't heard of anyone on this list report its success or no
success. As your comments mention, it looks like the new geometry would make
the braking more efficient. I am going to accomplish this mod and confirm that
this is true and report back in . . . er . . ah . .well . . .a few years!

Oh, by the way Ralph and Jeff Steenson, I ordered and received the cabin
heat/defrost valve kit from Leo LeClaire that you mentioned in an earlier
post . . . THANKS for the information on that one too! It looks great!

Thanks again for the information!

Terry,
We are not taxiing yet but did install the lower master cylinder mount
relocation kit. In my opinion it is worthwhile. With careful
positioning to maintain a parallelogram linkage the brake pedal position
remains nearly constant with respect to the rudder pedal. This will
make for more consistent braking in turns.

One more comment, be sure to position the pedal assemblies so that there
is clearance from the brake pedal to the firewall when the brake is
applied during full rudder pedal deflection and the linkages do not
contact the fuselage. MAM is not descriptive on location.

Brake geometry kit

Post by Murray and Carol Cherkas » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:50 pm

Terry

Something confusing when trying to establish where or how far back from the
firewall to install the rudder/brake pedals is not knowing how far the brake
pedal moves when applying full brakes.I installed the brake assembly
according to the original plans. The whole assembly is slightly closer to the
firewall than shown in the manual. I wanted to keep the assembly as far
forward as possible to keep my weight forward. Also you don't want to sit
too far back from the throttle and controls. The brake pedal might move 3/8"
to fully applied braking. Can't speak with experience yet but this seems like
it will work just fine. The brake mod may be a good thing but don't fool
around too much. Get flying. I'm almost there. Will be going to the airport
within 2 weeks. Coffed up my $600:00 for final inspection last night.

Good Luck
Murray
