1800 amphib nose wheel

[Legeorgen]

I installed the nose wheel with spacers for the axles on my 1800 amphibs.
There is an 1/8" slop allowing the wheel to slide back and forth, as if the
spacers should have been larger. Does this slack serve any purpose?

No Bruce...get rid of it as the "slop" will just influence wheel shimmy.

Either lightly squeeze the side arms to get rid of the space, while
tightening the shaft retention bolts, or if this won't do it throw a washer
in to take up the space (or if you have material make one spacer wider).

Never ends does it?!

Wayne,

Yea, I figured that much. I tired pinching the side arms but seamed like to
much tension and I still had a 1/16" gap. A longer spacer would be better than
a washer, I'll have to search my stash tomorrow.

I'm still short (on back order) a fluid tank, heat shrink rap and a few other
items from MAM. I would be fried with MAM if I wasn't planning on mounting
the floats until winter.

If you need something to complete your set, that I have, I'll be happy to
give it to you and you can replace me later when MAM comes through for you with
your back order. Just let me know.

Bruce, The spacers are probably a little thin due to a bearing to bearing
width change now that MAM is mfg their own nose wheels, as opposed to the
"Store" bought ones they started out using. Nobody bothered to to adjust the
rest of the assembly I guess to match the new wheels!

Thanks for the offer on the BO stuff! I'll wait and see what this week
brings. Really pisses me off when you're more than patient and give MAM an
extra month, from what was promised, to get your stuff shipped off to you
and when you open the crate there is a full page of backorders. These
include the FL-45 strut fittings so I can't even install the floats to my
airplane, no Nico's for X cables, No clevis pins for X-cable turnbuckles, no
hydraulic line or reservoir, no water rudder assemblies etc, etc.

Then, when I send off the "W.T.F." email on Monday, I find out that
apparently MAM was on holidays last week (and tech guys next week) so by the
time something gets done I'll be 2 months behind schedule and may as well
wait till next friggin year to install just like you!! ;o((
