O-320-C3B for sale

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:02 pm

Rebel/Elite builders!

I have just sold one of my A.T.C. overhauled O-320-B2B wide decks as a
certified engine with New cylinders/cam/etc/etc and am taking in a good
"used" engine as partial payment.

This used engine is coming off a certified PA-12 and has been maintained by
the same AME (Ron Cooper - Sundridge, Ontario) for many years. I'm told it's
strong and has good compression readings and Ron's an up front and honest
guy with nothing to gain out of this engine exchange (other than the
removal/installation labour of course!).

The engine is a 150HP x O-320-C3B. This designation means it was originally
a B3B x 160HP engine and someone overhauled it "derated" to 150 HP so that
they didn't need an STC to install it in the PA-12 (as they never came with
160's). The gentleman that owns the PA-12 wants more HP to go with his
draggy Borer Propellor and told Ron C. to get him a freshly overhauled wide
deck at 160 HP, as an STC is readily available from two or three sources
for the overhauled engine I had available for him.

The used engine has approximately 900hrs SMOH and recently had some
cylinder work done to it. I haven't seen the logs or engine yet so don't
know all the details, although I do know that it has the smaller exhaust
valve stems of the earlier engines (read not 1/2" valves). I'm told by ATC
that this isn't a huge issue, just makes it a 1200TBO engine cylinder wise.
Bottom end will last FOREVER running low compression pistons on a crankshaft
assembly designed for 160HP. If some years down the airway you wanted to
overhaul, or install new cylinders, you would have the option of jumping to
160HP with no bottom end concerns! Engine will be complete and ready to run
with mags/harness/plugs/flywheel/starter/carb/HP oil screen housing &
screen/etc ... as removed from the PA-12..with log book.

Anyone that is interested in this engine please send me a personal email to
oifa@irishfield.on.ca before I bother offering it to the "outside world"! I
will not set a firm price on it until I have it in my possession (should be
by end of May/first week of June), but it will be >somewhere< around the
$12,500CDN area (and CASH will talk!!). Leavens recently had an 850HR
O-320-E2D from a certified aircraft and wanted $14,500 for it. A certified
overhauled O-320 right now is over $28,000Cdn outright, so basically they
are after 1/2 that for a part time running engine. "Crank Guaranteed" run
out cores are fetching $7500 + US so you are getting a running engine for
very little more!

Thanks for listening!
