I agree, I think I use that 72" WD prop like a helicopter uses the main
rotor.
If my memory serves me correct, I am only turning the prop at 1600-1700 rpm.
Now the CofG might be the reason for the lack of sink rate. When I matched the
EA-81 up to the firewall, I built the mount so the engine was a far back as I
could put it but still allow me to service the oil filter and belt. I then had
a 4 inch extension added to the gearbox so the prop would be where the 912
cowl needed it to be. I think I just lucked out.
My CofG with just me and 15 gals of fuel (which is like 5 hrs of flying) is
12.66. Add a passenger and it's 13.02
I always felt that I was a little nose heavy because I can't get the tail
wheel to touch first on landing if I tried. Even with full elevator which I
adjusted to give me more than the recommended up travel, the tail is about 4
inches of the ground at touch down.
