Hi Rick

Sorry to hear about your engine problems, sounds like you are bouncing back
strongly, keep the spirit up! Just to let you know, the short hops Francine &
I took with you back in November still have us pumped to work on our project -
thanks again, it is worth it!

On the prop, do you have any dismantlers or for that matter R&O shops nearby
would sell you "a" prop and let you try a couple until you are satisfied with
your choice? I would think that a lad like yourself with the gift of gab you
have would be able to convince them that it was in their best interests to work
with you especially with other Rebel projects in the works (Hi Greg!). You
could tell them you will write it up in the SAAA magazine & give them a
mention?

What about getting in contact with Sensenich after gathering the consensus of
this group and bouncing it off them? They may be able to give you more then
the two options in their database.

keep the 0-320 cool in a Rebel ?

I'd also really like to know what INLET air area and total OUTLET area
- air ducts people are running for an 0-320 ... ?

G'day Dave & Francine !!! :-)


GREAT to hear the progress reports :-) .... keep at it guys !

Don't like my chances of someone lending us a prop ..... but I figure
with our NOT shortened firewall, I'm going to have to shave as much
weight as possible of the nose anyhow .... so I reckon I'll be making
another propeller in Can' Rock Maple ! .... (wanna send me over some
nice hunks of wood for the prop ?!?!?!? :-)

We might get lucky .... I figure, at this stage, that a 74 X 58 is
going to be the way to go ...... it'll give us a good cruise speed and
still have a good climb rate with the 150 or 160 HP (as we should have
climb rate to burn ! :-)

Early days yet ... gotta rebuild the 0-235 & get it back in the air so
we can sell it as a running concern !

Been too crazy here & I missed replying right away.

You serious about some Maple? There is a good hardwood supplier nearby, I buy
bit of Birch for other things and it is always good & dry. I'm not sure the
postage might be a bit dear though unless your buddy at Quantas wants to
help..... Let me know.

Outside of that, how is the rebuild & conversion going?

Good to hear the prop is coming along well.

On the 320, I don't think the info for the Elite would be correct for the Rebel
so it would probably be better if one of the Rebel builders speaks up on it.

When the article on the Avalon Airshow is done, will you post it somewhere so
we can have a look?

We are going to run it "on condition" .... and we expect to get 200 to
400 hours out of it before we need to do a full rebuild

BUT ,.... the pisser is ...we just found out today that an IO-320 is a
different dynafocal to everything else ! :-(

So now I'm half way through making another engine mount (& planning out
how to align the engine properly)
We want our baby to fly hands off again with the bigger engine like it
did with the 0-235 :-)

You might be able to help actually Dave .... any chance of sending me
the thrust line diagrams (with offset) ... I can't find my original
sheet :-(

We hope to be airborne in about 2 months ... There's LOTS of jobs to do
again ....new exhaust, fuel systems , remake the cowl sides longer etc,
etc .... oh well .... done it before, gotta do it again !

Thanks heaps for the offer .... but I've already sourced some
Canadian Rock Maple from my "exotic wood supplier" .... split it,
thicknessed, reversed the layers, glued it & actually got lent a 74 X
61 from a friends Tri Pacer (it'll be "close - ish") and copied it on a
Pantograph & hand shaped it to final shape .... It's now ready for
glassing ! :-)

could tell them you will write it up in the SAAA magazine & give
them

mention?

What about getting in contact with Sensenich after gathering the
consensus of
this group and bouncing it off them? They may be able to give you
more then
the two options in their database.

exhaust
system will sparkle it's performance up as well)

Jim Stonier's Rebel has a Sensienich 74 X 56" pitch ... and
cruises
at
110 KNOTS at 2400 RPM ..... is this a "normal" result with 150
HP ?

Can anyone recommend an oil cooler (aftermarket) which is good
enough to
keep the 0-320 cool in a Rebel ?

I'd also really like to know what INLET air area and total
OUTLET
area
- air ducts people are running for an 0-320 ... ?
