hi,

our 1800s are on order and we are getting set up to begin construction.
we have the instructions, but they do not give an estimate of the
number of clecos or the amount of proseal needed. any suggestions would
be appreciated.

Wayne G. O'Shea

building 1800 amphibs

Andy, forget the proseal and it's associated mess!! When you get them close
to the point that you are ready to start "sticking" them together, find
yourself a source for about a dozen "caulking" tubes of SikaFlex 1A. It is
available in many colours but you want either Aluminum or limestone. Both
hide very well with the aluminum. This is discussed many times in the
archives if you do a search on floats or Sikaflex.

No mixing no mess, just plug the tube at the end of each day and it's ready
for the next. Has a 6 month shelf life but works okay for at least a year,
if you keep the tubes stored in the fridge and only take out a couple days
prior to needing each one to warm them up. If you are going to get them used
in time do no put in the fridge at all so you don't have to bother with the
warm up!

Cleco's, at least a two hundred of the 3/32 and three hundred of the 1/8 if
you are doing the smart thing and working each float to a similar stage of
construction as you go along.

The other suggestion I would have at this time, but of course know you may
really want to get your hands dirty, why not buy a finished pair at the
ridiculously low SALE price of $14,900us/$22,632cdn c/w attach gear from
Murphy. This works out to a messily $8.80us/hour for the assembly of the
floats based on the 500 hours or so it takes to build them. They keep up
with deals like that and I'm going to have to start building
porta-potties!!!

Cheers,
Wayne
