-> I was wondering if anyone can direct me to the notice of a modification

Jim,

My kit (#171) had the narrower 'V', so I'd assume yours does as well. Brian
told me to move the 'V' ribs outboard 3/8ths of an inch on each side. The
other way to make clearance between the elevator and vertical stab rear spar
is to cut back the flange on the VS spar and make up the extra strength by
riveting on reinforcing angle to the back side of the spar. There are pictures
of the interference problem and fixes in the archives under SR tail section.

I found that since I had already drilled the holes for the extra diagonal rib
in the next bay, that the repositioned rib would wouldn't fit at the trailing
edge. There would also be a fit problem with the 1/2 rib closest to the 'V'.
My solution was to widen the 'V' cutout only at the bottom or narrowest part.
Of course, as soon as you start making mods Murphy's Law kicks in (no not
Darryl Murphy!!). The second, opposite direction bend in the 'V' rib weakens
it since I had to cut the flange. That caused me to make up some new top and
bottom gussets that run farther out along the 'V' to reinforce the ribs.

There is a drawing in the archives of this sort of arrangement, which is what
I used as a guide.
