Float skins.

Post by akmillman » Thu Apr 06, 2023 4:40 pm

I am finishing a set of 1800 amphibs from MAM.
I was curious to know if anyone remembers if the side skins are 2024 or 6061. Looks like 6061. I can only find one stamp, it is on one of the bay dividers and it says 2024. I have easy access to 2024. Just looking for some help.

Brad,

Side skins are made from .020", typically 6061-T6 was used because it was more economical for MAM to use; 2024-T3 would be your alternative.

Thanks Jeff,

I have easy access to 2024. Have to go 300 miles further for 6061. Should I go get that or settle for 2024?

The 2024 is fine, MAM has made material substitutions for years.
