Floats must be tagged in Canada

Post by irishfield » Thu Dec 10, 2015 1:22 pm

I guess I was ahead of my time when I did Howard's set of floats in 1997 and tagged them both with builder and serial numbers. The same as you would find on a certified set of floats. MDRA has added some more "verbage" to their system. I also had never seen it shown before that you needed your float build inspected as part of MDRA's sign off inspection program, but that may have been there for a long time. Thanks to Gary Wolf for the update via the Recreational Flyer I received today.

So apparently if you are starting out on amphibs and trying to get your flight permit, be aware that your floats have to pass inspection / retract tests / etc in the presence of the MD-RA inspector and each float needs it's own tag and separate serial number. Not sure what the real deal is when you install floats after the fact onto an already flying bird and generally just submit your updated "equipment list" and new W & B to Transport Canada for their files. I've never been asked about tags by TC.
