Hello,

I am just putting the finishing touches on a repaired fiberglass cowling for a super rebel. Can anyone recommend a good paint system to use. I am familiar with only the Imron system, but do not want to dish out the $500 a gallon. OR, Does anyone know of a cheaper source for the Imron.

I use PPG Concept (acrylic urethane) on both aluminum and fiberglass with good results. Expense depends on color--red is the most expensive by far. http://www.tcpglobal.com/docs/ppgdccp.pdf

There are thousands of threads on the Vans Air Force site about painting. Ted's recommendation for 1 part base/clear PPG is a good one.

I don't think there are any good inexpensive paints out there anymore. Thanks to our goverments and their EPA. I have been using a good automotive paint called "Nason" which is owned by DuPoint. Colors runs between $40 - $60 Quart.

I'll second what Charlie said, I do some automotive paint now and then and I've found the Nason base/clear works very well. I wouldn't go back to a single stage, the clear just does such a great job and if you're really fussy it can be wet sanded and buffed to remove any imperfections.
