Post by Ljm » Sat May 23, 2020 5:24 am

I am looking for suggestions on trailering the wings. Best way to secure, etc.

Thanks

Open trailer or enclosed?

Open trailer, two single bed mattresses, add a wing bottoms skin down. Two more mattresses, next wing top skin down. Strap across wings and hook to outboard edges of trailer. Use some SM/Celfort blocks under the straps. Been hauling for 25 years this way, sometimes for over 500 miles. without a scratch.

Enclosed layout is pending on hook loop or top edge of trailer wall. I've done them many ways, including a Rebel all the way to Maui and a J3 to Ireland, not a scratch. Straps hooked at bottom, throw a couple bats of insulation down on top and set wings on top of that. Then take the straps up to the ceiling edge and just snug them up. Some pipe insulation tubes over the straps to protect the paint. Another option is some wing holders screwed to the trailer floor. You can also stack them on the floor, again with the mattresses or similar.

Perfect! Thank you for your pictures with your post. It is an open trailer, only going 35 miles of country road, but I am always a worrier about moving. Thanks again,
