Ramble '08 ....

Hi Ramblers !
Well, we survived another Ramble !! :-)
Everybody made it home on Saturday, July 19th,
after a great trip, with only a few rough spots...
Tom's Rebel will be good as new.. very soon.
We started up with a small but happy group of 13,
with a mix of 'repeat offenders' and new Ramblers,
and a Zenith Zodiac & Cessna Cardinal, as well as the Rebels.
We met up for lunch at Lindsay, then flew on to camp at Iroquois.
Thanks to the good folks at Iroquois for a great BBQ
on Sunday night, and the help with pushing & pulling
us out of the soggy ground the next morning ! From there,
we visited Cornwall, and Valcourt, QC - for a tour of the Bombardier
Ski-do Museum, and on to St. Basile, (& St. Raymond, where we
were welcomed by the CVVQ - Quebec Gliding Club), ...
We were welcomed in St. Basile by airport owner Denis Marcotte,
and Jean Poirier, who planned everything at his end.
Most camped at the Centre Nature, and Anna & I
stayed at the Hotel Roquemont, for old-times-sake ...
The Ramblers rented a couple of vans, and toured old Quebec City
for 2 wonderful days - this is Canada's little bit of Europe !
The 'grand dinner' downtown didn't quite work out, but
we all has a great visit, enjoying the musicians & jugglers.
Wednesday night, Jean threw us a fabulous BBQ dinner
at his house, with filet mignon, baked potato, etc. - we all
ate too much ! We had a little time to visit with several
Quebec RAA members, and check out Jean's Rebel in
the garage, before the rain started. Thursday, we headed out
for Ottawa, since the weather was not good for a trip further
East to PEI, as we had suspected ... Thanks to Jim's daughter,
we had a ride to our 'motel' - the university residence.
Once settled, Jim led us, taking taxis downtown, to Little Italy,
for a great Italian meal in a wonderful little restaurant
where the owner kept us laughing - it was a fun evening !
Friday was an experience day, riding Ottawa busses
to the Aviation Museum & touring. Later, we went downtown
and, after a long lunch at an Irish Pub - and some fabulous
Gelato (!), most went for a riverboat cruise. We got soaked
twice during the afternoon, and, back at the residence,
it rained again most of the night ...
Saturday morning looked like our only chance to get
home for several days. We waited at the airport for
the clouds to lift, and tiptoed out as soon as we could !
It got better as we went, although a bit bumpy later
in the day. Fish & Jim went to Parry Sound, and Ken & I
stopped at Lindsay for lunch ... then all headed home...
It was a short Ramble, but a good one - thanks to the
pleasant company ! Thanks to all the Ramblers, and to
ALL the wonderful folks along the way who helped to
make it "another trip of a lifetime" !!!
Hope we see you all next year - when we hope to
Ramble to BOTH Coasts ... again !! :-)
(This really might be the LAST one ....) :-(
PS..
We will post some pictures to the web site
when we get back from Oshkosh ...
