The Murphy Builders Site

Okay. Lots of replies on the rebel site. Lets see how many are actually
subscribed here on the ramble site.

There have been replies and indications of interest of sorts from Ron,
Ted, John, Walter, Bob and perhaps others.

Concerns expressed to date are around time for such a commitment,
failure to launch issues, unwillingness to go if too few planes
involved, fuel availability and arrangements.

Naturally, many are more interested at this stage in shorter term
projects like the Canada both coasts Bob is proposing and the Manitoba
gigs Walter and John are referring to. We've got a tiny start here and
maybe we can grow the seed.

Any comments on a specific route which would allow for wheeled as well
as floated aircraft?

I initially put this forward on the rebel builders list but Wayne O'Shea
says there are lots of non-rebel folk who won't know what I'm talking
about without posting this here. Thanks Wayne. Its a good thing we have
adult supervision here. Thus....

I am in the conceptual stages of planning a ramble which would occur
over about a 3 week period in June of 2010. This ramble would probably
start near Winnipeg and head north to eventually reach the southernmost
limits of the Arctic Ocean (near Coppermine), thence through Yellowknife
and Whitehorse and likely back through Williston reservoir or perhaps
Margaret Lake in the Caribou formation in northern Alberta. The route
would roughly follow the route of George Erickson in his book True North
and be very dependent upon who participates, where they come from etc.

The more aircraft the better and part of that is going to be a strong
effort to ensure that the mission is suited to wheeled aircraft,
floatplanes and amphibs. The mission is simply flying and fishing and
trying to stay undamaged by mosquitoes and flies.

Fuel in the north is always a consideration so that is the big reason
for the long lead time. It will have to be shipped up the summer before
to anywhere that regular purchases are not available. The other reason
is making it possible for as many as can to attend. Lots of warning is
sometimes helpful for that. In this case, the more aircraft, the less
logistical problems will exist as they can share spares, tools etc.

I would strongly recommend George Erickson's book mentioned above as an
introduction to this concept. Note I have not called this a Rebel Ramble
because I'm hoping for a wider interest from a wide variety of people.
Some time this winter I plan to place an ad in the COPA newspaper to try
to drum up some interest from outside the Murphy cadre.
