Hi Ramblers !
Well, we're back to wrestling with the final dates for Ramble 2007 !
As usual, there's lots of things we'd like to do, and not quite enough
time ...
The first draft we did had us starting on Friday, July 6th, and
getting home on the 20th. Had to be back then, as Oshkosh starts July 23rd.
This meant a 2 week trip , plus one extra day at the start - something
we felt almost everyone could swing for holiday time, especially if they
booked now. Do most people have more holidays, or can they swing
a 'leave of absence' ?? You'll see why I ask --
First consideration - the gang at Lyncrest (Winnipeg) have invited us
to stop there. They throw a great party - we've enjoyed their hospitality !
BUT - it would be best if we were there on the weekend ...
original draft put us there on Tuesday ! Question - would this be
a 'really big problem' for Lyncrest, or for us ?? In any case, we
could likely only stay one night ... Much nicer if we could get
there on Saturday or Sunday.
Next consideration - just found out that the Arlington Fly-in
(Washington) dates for 2007 are July 11 - 15 -- original draft
put us there about July 14th or 15th. We really don't want to
try to rush - the object is to ENJOY THE TRIP !! Arlington is about
THE nicest fly-in of them all ! Very well organized, and a great
setting... at least one day there would be nice.
After considering both of these, the simple answer seems to be
to do what we've done other years -- push the start date back
to Thursday, July 5th, or better, Wednesday, July 4th. We could
just fly up to Gore Bay (Manitoulin Airport) on the evening of
the 4th, and proceed from there. Thinking it might be difficult
to cross the border on the 4th ... ;-) - otherwise, we could
start on Tuesday, July 3rd. Either Wednesday or Thursday would
put us into Winnipeg about noon on Sunday - not ideal, but maybe
workable ...
All of the dates are subject to change anyway, once we get
started - Rambles are always "Navigation by Consensus" - but we
need a starting point. I've started on a first draft based on
leaving Brampton on Wednesday, July 4th, possibly afternoon or
evening, meaning folks COULD join us at Gore Bay on Thursday
morning, and continue on.
Unless I hear lots of yells, that's the plan for first draft.
I'll be away at a business seminar until Monday, but hope to
be able to post a preliminary itinerary by the end of next week.
We have had several more "definites" and "maybes" sign up -
keep rivetting on those airplanes,
and come on along on "The Trip of a Lifetime" ! :-)
