Rebel Ramble 2005 - and low compression

Hi Phil !

If it just developed low compression, before you tear it down,
just run over to Leavens and get a can of AvBlend - pour it into
the oil, and fly for about an hour. You will be amazed - compression
will likely return !!

Have used AvBlend many times over the years - some say it's
good to add every oil change. It's a very thin oil liquid that penetrates
into the pores of the metal, improving lubrication and helping preserve.
Good to put some in before winter storage....

Often, engines develop sticky valves or rings when not flown
enough (100+ hours/year) - and the compression goes down. Have
seen many engines restored to new with just one can !

Hope that does it, and you can come for the whole trip, but ALL
are welcome to join up for even a day or 2 !! :-)

Hi Bob,

Sorry to tell you but my bird is giving me trouble. First I did a hard
landing, fixed the gear leg, and now I have a bad cylinder. So will do a
compression check to define the problem. Then go from there.

Don't feel to comfortable about venturing far with a new or remodelled
cylinder, and an old geezer like me.

May try to fly with you for the first part. Tobermory, Gore bay and fish
and chips are close to home, (cottage) so may venture there.

Will let you know how the fix turns out.

Phil.

Bob,

Thanks for the tip.. I have a pressure test setup which I was going to use
tommorrow, but may try your suggestion before I do anything drastic.

It could be as simple as all the rings ends up with the ends in the same
spot or close together. run it and see what happens.
