News from Ashland,WI

Hi Ramblers !!
We've just heard from Robert Hom, the new airport manager at
JFK Memorial Airport, at Ashland,WI. He wrote to advise us that they are
planning a big construction project at the airport, starting in July,
that would see runway 02/20 closed, as well as parts of the ramp area !
This may cause a problem with tie-down spaces (no biggie -
we can park on the grass !), and fuel pump access (could be awkward !).
He will keep us posted on progress, and we can phone him from Manistique,
before we set out, so we'll know what to expect.
The facilities at Ashland are really excellent, and we have
always enjoyed a warm welcome there. Robert is doing a great job as new
manager, by giving us this advance notice, and has extended a warm
invitation to RON, if we can do it.
I certainly hope we can !! The last time we Rambled into
Ashland, one runway had just been repaved, and was still closed.
One of the Ramblers just <couldn't> get his Cherokee down on the
other runway, because of the extreme crosswind. The airport manager
really 'rolled out the red carpet' - he moved construction barriers,
and opened up "most" of the new runway !! So the Cherokee got the
honour of being the first aircraft to use the new runway !!! :-)
Not that we would expect this as normal practice, but it shows the
spirit at Ashland !!
In any case, we'll continue to plan for a RON at Ashland, and
hope for the best !
......bobp & Anna
