Ramble News (& newsletter)

Hi Ramblers !!
Watch your mailboxes ! I finally got the latest issue of the
Ramble newsletter in the mail on Monday !!!
There are lots of exciting things happening !
As you will read in the newsletter, we had a VERY nice invitation
from the Mayor of Winkler, MB, and the Winkler Flying Club, to come and
RON for a steak BBQ and western hospitality !
I know some of you were planning on visiting friends & family
in Winnipeg, so stopping at Winkler might be a problem, but it sounds
like a nice Remain Over Night stop. I suppose we <could> go to LynCrest
too, if everyone agrees - although this will take an extra day ...
We certainly appreciate the offer from the Winkler Flying Club, and will
try to keep them posted on progress.
I spoke to Roberta Baker, of the Vernon (BC) Flying Club, and
they would welcome the Ramblers for another visit. We had a GREAT
BBQ there on the 1996 Ramble - steak, fish, and salmon on the grill,
right on the shore of Okanogan Lake !! The campground is just a mile
or so from the Vernon airport. Winery tours can be arranged in the
area, too....
There are several new possible stops to consider, and,
as usual, we won't <really> have to decide until the day before !!
Many factors, like weather, lack of sleep, hangovers, hunger,
relatives to visit, curiosity, friendliness, fuel prices/availability,
etc. are all carefully weighed and considered in "Navigation by
Consensus" !! ;-)
We will always do everything we can to help promote Recreational
Aviation and the local airport. We plan to carry banners for Canadian
Owners & Pilots Association and Recreational Aircraft Association to
be held up by the group for photos for the local newspapers & TV stations.
Just telling the community that the airport IS valuable, and has attracted
people who use car rentals, motels, and restaurants can be a BIG help
to local fliers ! If we can let you know we're coming to visit,
even if it's not for a RON, PLEASE call your local newspaper, radio
or tv station, and let us help keep your airport open !
A BIG "Thank you ! " to Sam & Sandi Archer, who have sent us
photos of "downtown Cicely", menus from Roslyn's Cafe, the local
newspaper, and A MASCOT for the Ramble !! "Morty the Moose" is all
dressed up in a 'Roslyn's Cafe' T-shirt, and will ride along on the
Ramble ! You can learn a bit more about "Cicely, AK" at the web
site: www.moosefest.com ;-)
Thanks for all the help, Sam & Sandi ! Rebel builders are
really great folks !! :-)
Work is progressing on the design of the Ramble 2000 buttons
for participants, and the name tags. Another newsletter is also in
the works, and we are looking forward to the 'Get Acquainted' meeting
on June 4th at Brampton RAA clubhouse. We will have maps from the last
run to the 'Wet Coast', to run through the route.
One suggestion in the newsletter is a "Ramble Warmup Weekend",
June 10th & 11th, at Arthur East Airport, home of York Soaring Assoc.,
a grass strip with several runways, about 60 miles North West of Toronto.
We could try out the tents, go for a glider flight ($40), and have
an "all you can eat for a twonie" BBQ !! What do you think ???
Is there enough time for this, with all the preparations ??
Is anyone interested ??
Hoping for some feedback here on this, and any suggestions on
things that help flying/camping .....
....bobp
