Wahoo! Great to see the US legs where sport pilots can join in the fun.
Ramble or Bust! Now I'm triple motivated to finish 254R expeditiously.
It's a comin', and just might be possible.

Glad to hear that, Ron !!

One of the original ideas of the Rambles was to provide a goal
for builders - some extra motivation !

Happy to hear it's working ! :-)

With Rambling, we're never really sure where we will end up-
some years we came right back to Canada because of high gas prices,
other years, we stayed in the US all the way across, because of
great tailwinds !! :-) That's why the possible stops are a bit
vague, and the options become wider as the trip progresses ! ;-)

There are builders here who are not nearly as far along as you are,
and they are definitely coming along !!

So - keep rivetting, everyone... The Ramble's coming !! ;-)

Depending on timing, and the group, we may very well end up
flying into Oshkosh at the end of the Ramble, so that can be
another goal...

Yeah, I'm stoked. And yes, I did see the southern US return leg headed
toward Oshkosh. It's a long shot, but... possible.

Finished a new leaf spring installation a week ago or so. Finished the
struts a couple days ago. Just finished the elevator push-pull tube
holes today, so now I can start on the FUS-30 doubler tomorrow or next
day. Looking at those tube holes... definitely going to do the FUS-30
mod. :-)

I'm pretty sure I have literally all parts in hand now except avionics,
and maybe a bolt or two, a couple of extra rivets, and cowl parts... but
that's it. Engine will go onto the mount in about a week to aid locating
all the FWF gear, then off for mounting that stuff (geez what a long
list of things!) I have wing & tail tips, prop, seats, wing lights,
almost all electrical parts, etc... In short, it's possible.

I'll have to complete the 40-hr fly-off too, of course -- before I can
catch up with you folks in Arlington or thereabouts. Or, I could fly to
Arlington, take a bus to meet you folks in Chilliwack (don't want to
miss that part!) and fly back down to Arlington with somebody. Or...
possibilities are endless.

Will have to send you my $5 registration pronto. Now THAT would be a
real commitment! :-)

Hi Ron !

Sounds like you're very close ! I've said several times that
builders should target being flying by March, latest, to be sure to
allow time to fly off the requirements AND for the paperwork to
go through !! :-( You all can do it !

There are several Ramblers who will be joining in at various
points along the way, and I'm sure we can work something out about
Chilliwack - or maybe you could meet us in Winnipeg, or somewhere
earlier. Some folks can only fly along for a day or 2, then must
return home - that's OK, they can still have SOME fun !! :-)
Looks like there'll be several new Ramblers joining in at Winnipeg,
we'll pick up Garry in High River, and maybe a couple more, and there'll
be a few more joining in at Arlington, for the trip back to OSH ...
Should be a real FUN Ramble !!

Yes, sending in $5 cash IS a real committment !! We've found it's
not the amount, just the psychological decision to write out your name
& address and say "I'm coming !", and pop it in an envelope, that
creates the real committment to come along on "The adventure of a lifetime !"
Heaven knows the $5 registration doesn't begin to cover the real cost of
postage, phone calls, name tags & Ramble buttons, ... and the time !!
It's really worth it though - and does help with planning !!! We really enjoy
travelling and meeting new people, and introducing flyers to the
great beauty of our countries - we'd like to take everyone on a Ramble !! :-)

Bob,

Well I'd love to join up in Winnipeg, except I'd be riding shotgun in
someone else's plane until Arlington. That is, unless Canada decides to
liberate US sport pilots in their airspace before then. (My email
exchanges with the Transport Canada officials recommended by EAA has not
been productive so far.) In any case, I'll probably still need that time
you're flying between Winnipeg and Chilliwack to finish the fly-off here
in California. Every day counts. :-)

Will send you a little extra moolah. Thanks for all you're doing in
support of Rebellious ones.

Ron

Hi Ron !

There's a good possibility there will be someone who would be
happy to have a 'right-seater' to share the fun & expenses ! There
are a few on the list already ...

Unfortunately, I wouldn't hold out too much hope for TC changing
their policies ... this will take a loooong time - if ever. :-(
(Your FAA is not being kind to our Owner Maintenance Category aircraft
either - just "Not Allowed in U.S.A." - period !) Of course, as Wayne
suggests, it's almost impossible to tell from outside, just what category
your aircraft is ..... ;-)

While we don't encourage anyone to break laws, there MIGHT have
been some aircraft on Rambles that the owners chose to fly, regardless
of their legal status .... Of course, their insurance companies
would not have covered them ... Their decision !

In any case, we look forward to Rambling with you all next year !

Keep this in mind everyone! You MUST have a passport in 2007 when arriving
from Canada by even a private aircraft..so apply now if you don't have one.
Wayne

Flying to the USA in 2007?
You Will Need a Passport!
Canadians who arrive in the USA by airplane will need to present a valid
passport for entry, starting on January 8, 2007.

This change in travel documentation required is part of the US government's
Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.

COPA Members who are planning to fly to the US by private aircraft or
airline and who do not currently hold a valid passport should apply soon, as
delays are anticipated due to the demand. You should also consider who will
travel with you to the US and make sure they each have a valid passport.

Passports currently cost $87 and are valid for five years. More information
about getting a passport can be found on the Passport Canada website.

More information on passport requirements and the Western Hemisphere Travel
Initiative is available from the Canada Border Services Agency website.
