hi guys my floats are fitted with the parts supplied by murphy
plastic tubing and fittings
today while pushing the plane back in to my parking place, the tee in
the right hand float blew off the hose--- and before i moved it i had
made sure the pressure was at 100 psi ( i do realize that the
pressure goes up signifigantly under these circumstances)
this is not acceptable! which fittings have proved to be fail safe
and yet work with the 3/8 nylon tubing or do i have to throw everything
away and start again?
ideas pls bob fisher rebel 342 on 1800 murphy amphibs

Hi Bob,
I know that I had tried to put some ferrules in the plastic tubing so the
fittings wouldn't collapse them. Did the tees have that in them? If I
remember right, these fittings weren't complete when you got the floats.
I would be interested to hear from others if any fittings WITH inserts have
failed.

hi phil yes there are enough brass fittings but i was never able to get
the barrel shaped furrels from cocking sidways and leaking there is a
special furrel that is flat on one end that seems to work ie; you can`t
pull it apart but i only have a few of these parts i`m going to try
western hydraulics tomorrow

Howard's went 7 summers and never blew a line off. Hydraulics or brakes.
Lots of gear cycles. Had the odd weeper... that nothing but a 1/4 turn more
couldn't take care of, but never a blown line. Lines where still holding
pressure, etc when I removed the floats last fall to start his rebuild. As
matter of fact..lines are still full of Dextron right up to the fuselage
tee. They are sitting up on top of two of my marine containers and I was up
there last week to see if the sun/winter has effected the line flexibility
at all and it's still very good. FOKM..same deal. Odd weeper, but never a
blown line. I cracked a union joiner (from where I stretched the floats) by
over tightening it onto harder Nyloseal tube and replaced it with a Home
Depot 3/8 Brass compression union that worked well with no leaks. Not sure
if you can get these in Tee's though. Got a Home Depot in Parry Sound yet
Bob, or Rona (Cashway) Lumber seems to be stocking most stuff now that
HomeDepot tried to monopolize on.

I should add Bob, after you installed everything did you continually go
around to every fitting and try giving it another turn? Fly for a while and
do this again, and again and again just to be sure they were as tight as
they will go and have compressed the plastic line down so it can't pop out?
This is part of the "ritual" every annual I did on Howard's and usually once
through the summer as well.
BTW, I also cheat on the first round..After tightening by hand and letting
them sit for a day or so to compress, gave them another half turn of so with
a pair of channel locks !
