Hey !!! Look what I found !!! It's not a diesel, but it sure
might solve a LOT of problems for Elites AND Super Rebels !!!!
Check out the fuel savings AND increased horsepower !

You would have to cut one mean hole in the firewall though, to accommodate
that long water pump sticking out off the rear of the engine!!!!

A Liquid Cooled Conversion Kit For O-360 And O-540 Series Lycomings!
I wasn't sure I believed my eyes when I first saw it. but its for real.

But think what a great cabin heater it'd make !! :-)

PS
Actually, not sure WHAT they do for a water pump, OR radiator !
They don't seem to include a rad. in the "complete" kit !! :-(

Ya but all year long!!! Seriously if you look at their pictures from the
AOPA show, it shows the water pump sticking out off the back of the
accessory case about a <foot> past the mags! Kind of makes me suspicious
when I see the supposable test engine and it doesn't even have hoses
connecting the water pump to the cylinder cooling tubes. I can see not
having the radiator, as they probably had a stationary one hooked to the
test bed, but you would think the cylinders would be hooked up!

The radiator is12"x6"x6". The water pump in the picture is just a prototype.
When their finished the pump will stick out no farther than the magneto. I
called them in regard to the type of radiator they where using and who made
it. It's custom made by Griffin radiator ( www.griffinrad.com). For all those
thinking about a Subaru or other liquid cooled engine they can make a rad. to

Are you sure the radiator is 12" x 6" x 6"? I could understand 12" x 6"
x 6/10" thick. I think with a 6" thick cube you are going to have some
problems moving the cooling air through and effectively cooling all the
radiator. The area where the air enters will probably be close to the
temperature you want while the back will never cool.

A second thought is, are they using multiple, interconnected 12" x 6"
radiators and with the air gap and radiator spacing the overall size is a
6" cube?

Thanks, Phil !

I'm glad somebody is checking into this. It could be a first
step towards improving "1938 Tractor Technology" - just imagine:
water cooling, electronic ignition - golly, maybe even fuel injection
that's newer than 1950's technology !!! :-`) ;-)

Why, pretty soon, they'll be almost like a Subaru !! ;-)

Seriously, I really think water cooling would go a LONG
way to eliminating shock cooling damage, and the extra power, fuel
economy, and reduced wear would be VERY welcome additions to the
world of aircraft engines. The O-540 in a Super Rebel on amphibs
would be working pretty hard without it - the savings in maintenance
would be considerable, I suspect !!

Please keep us posted if you get progress updates ....

Actualy the cores are 1 1/4" with four cores to total a 6" depth. Don't ask
me about the math as 1 1/4"x4"=5" the rest must be cooling fin.
