The Murphy Builders Site

First, make absolutely sure this is the kind of cap you want. I installed
the crap that came with the kit and have regretted it ever since. A bit
difficult to change now.

The ones that came with my Elite kit are not quite farm tractor quality!
Instead I have some nice flush ones installed.

Hi Tim !

I lined mine up left/right, along the wing. Also,
I ran a 1/16" drill through them to enlarge a bit.

I also drilled 1/8" holes in the stem, near the
top, so they would be sheltered under the cap flanges.
This was to help vent the tank - worked well, even
in the days before we added a cross vent tube -
which is still a good idea !

I'm assuming you have the standard caps. The
flush caps tend to accumulate & leak water ...
can be a pain to open, especially in winter,
as well as cost more .... ;-)

Flush caps also don't give you a hand hold and you fall in the lake when
fueling your float plane!!! %*(@$*%(@

The tiny little holes in the necked caps are just their because.. well..
they're vented caps. DO NOT drill them bigger.. DO NOT put that hole in the
filler neck that Murphy has in the manual. Put a ram air vent in one of your
wing root fairings attached to a tee in the cross vent line... one in each
root fairing in the cross vent if you're not overly sharp at doing walk
arounds!

In certain flight regimes it can be in a vacuum and suck fuel out.. also
defeats the purpose of the ram air snorkel which adds a light pressure to
the tanks and guarantees fuel flow.. especially in less than perfect
plumbing issues... or helps where guys did stupid things and ran the fuel
lines forward and over the main carrythru.. instead of back.. down and then
forward. Simple fill the hole with a rivet Craig and carry on...

Well, if you have fuel injection and a fuel pump, then it doesn't matter.
But if you want some extra pressure in your tanks to help with your gravity
fed carb, you need sealed caps and a vent tube facing into the wind stream.

Don't think it matters with the smaller engines, but I also have a fuel
sensor in my line, and with the 360, it gives me a little more assurance.
