[rebel-builders] SR Wheels and brakes

Hi Mike !

The wheels & brakes are all JDM's - made by Murphy. The linings
are compatible with Clevelands, but much cheaper from Rapco.

These are the same wheels & brakes as the Rebel, except you
have 2 calipers.

I'm sure we'll find a buyer for you - just might take a while
in this economy !! :-( Be a lot easier when/if it is in the
lower 48 ... Is the time flown off, so you can ferry it down ??

Thanks Bob. Yep, the time is flown off and I can deliver it wherever. I'll
be flying it to Denver later in the year if it hasn't sold where Ted Waltman
has graciously offered to help me sell it from there.

Is it the same JDM brake assemblies in the Aircraft Spruce catalog? I still
can't figure out which brake caliper, rotor, bearings, linings I would order
if I needed replacements.

They are not the same.. the SR.. or at least the one I have here have 1 1/2"
ID Bearings.. the Rebel has 1 1/4" bearings.

Pads are 66-106's.. from memory.. but my brain's a little frazzled after
fixing boat hulls all day.

Mike when I shipped that Rebel to Maui... that I sent you pictures of...
total cost for him was just shy of $11,000. That was truck to bring
container to me.. truck to take it to Toronto.. train to Vancouver and down
to Los Angeles and then boat to the big island and then off load and shuttle
boat to Maui.

66-106 is a really common lining. That's probably correct. Is it just
different bearings or are the wheels different?

The 20 foot container cost from Fairbanks to Armidale, Australia was $17K so
it's starting to sound like I'm likely not going to get a better price by
much in today's dollars all the way to Australia. Even with the stinger,
cowl, and engine mount off, the fuselage is still 21 feet long. Even angled
in the container I doubt the 20 foot container will work. I think $26K is a
deal breaker for the "take it to Australia" idea.

I'll grab the wheels, from the marine container the SR is in, tomorrow and
get bearing numbers off of them if I can... and compare to the Rebel JDM
wheels I have in the shop as well Mike.

Mike.. as Bob stated they are (almost) the same wheels as the Rebel/Elite.
Same in all measurements EXCEPT the bearing bore is machined bigger. Axle is
1.5" on the SR/Moose.. 1.25 on the Rebel.

Bearings in the SR wheels that I have.. tapered rollers are KOYO HI-CAP
JL-69349-N and it's matching cone that fits a 2.5" bore. I didn't remove the
cone to get a number.

Glad I actually looked for you. The one bearing I pulled the dust seal off
etc to remove.. found the cone had been installed with a screw driver or
chisel. Sharp marks in two spots on the cone edge so deep that they bulged
the cone and two deep nicks in the cone face itself. !!$$$%&&**%*(!!!

Pads are definitely 66-106's

They are not the same.. the SR.. or at least the one I have here have 1
1/2"

ID Bearings.. the Rebel has 1 1/4" bearings.

Pads are 66-106's.. from memory.. but my brain's a little frazzled after
fixing boat hulls all day.

Mike when I shipped that Rebel to Maui... that I sent you pictures of...
total cost for him was just shy of $11,000. That was truck to bring
container to me.. truck to take it to Toronto.. train to Vancouver and
down
to Los Angeles and then boat to the big island and then off load and
shuttle

boat to Maui.

It's actually a 2.48 OD bore and ID 1.4961.. Found Timken and NSK have the
same bearing number as well as KOYO. Bearing and cone appears to be
JL-69349/10 at least at NSK... the company Curt was looking for the other
day.

http://www.nskf-bearings.com/Products.htm

With Timken.. I believe the cone number is JL-69310.. so a set is
JL-69349/JL-69310

Bearings in the SR wheels that I have.. tapered rollers are KOYO HI-CAP
JL-69349-N and it's matching cone that fits a 2.5" bore. I didn't remove
the
cone to get a number.

I'll grab the wheels, from the marine container the SR is in, tomorrow
and
get bearing numbers off of them if I can... and compare to the Rebel JDM
wheels I have in the shop as well Mike.

[quote]66-106 is a really common lining. That's probably correct. Is it just
different bearings or are the wheels different?

The 20 foot container cost from Fairbanks to Armidale, Australia was
$17K
so
it's starting to sound like I'm likely not going to get a better price
by
much in today's dollars all the way to Australia. Even with the stinger,
cowl, and engine mount off, the fuselage is still 21 feet long. Even
angled
in the container I doubt the 20 foot container will work. I think $26K
is
a
deal breaker for the "take it to Australia" idea.

No clicking. Thanks for the tip though. Speaking of pushing it, one person
pushing a Moose/SR around by themselves is no small feat! I've been using my
truck and a rope to turn it around once in a while to melt the ice off the
windshield using the power of the sun. I can't do it myself. By the way, my
neighbor at the airport told me how he used a hair dryer to melt the ice off
of his windshield and caused a small, permanent warpage doing it. I thought
of doing that myself and probably would have been fine with my 1/4 inch
windshield, but word to the wise for those of you with a standard thickness
(thin) windshield ...
