Charles,

I found nylon bolts and nuts at Eagle hardware, now
Lowes. I used them to mount the Mag compass.

Hi Chuck,
I am now using the original style LSE . That is it has a capasitor
discharge uses MDS (name brand) for the cdi and a computer module for
proper timing. It gets it's pulses from coils mounted on brackets behind the
flywheel and pins in the passing them. It also gives me the ability to use
Platinum automotive plugs at 3.50 each with the use of the adaptors LSE also
sells.
To make it short, it works great. I can't tell when I turn off the mag I
have and it will idle at about 475 rpm. In cruise i't's about 7 degrees
advanced , that's plus 25 hat's fixed on a mag, and it is automatically set
for start in the retard position (about 5deg I think) Fuel economy is
there, I just don't have previous info to be able to properly expound on it.
I'm getting 7.2 gph US at 2500 rpm.
It really is dependable and works well, so give Klause a call and he'll
fill you in on all the good stuff.

One question, does your cyl head temp increase when running the LSE, I seem
to remember reading somewhere that that may be one drawback, depending on the
increase.

Hi,
In answer to your question, I cannot tell you a difference, because that's
the way we started flying it. Our temp parameters have been within range,
with the egt's maybe being higher. The information I have access to is
through the canard pilots I know sooo, third hand, the lowdown seems to be
that cht's will remain the same while the egt's go higher due in part to the
fact that the ignition fires on both ignition and exhaust stroke. Like the
newer cars. The hotter spark seems to just burn cleaner not so much hotter
Our numbers are this. Egt's run in the 1520 range Cht's in the 375 to 385
depending on the outside temps. Hope this is a help. Curt N97MR

For anyone wanting to reduce weight,I have found using Nylon Lock Nuts
(even on the back of compass brass screws)and Nylon bolts work well.I
have used them to hold strut fairing and any other non-structural
parts.I have found a company (www.microplastics.com) that has every
thing you would ever need. They have soild nylon lock nuts from
4/40,6/32,8/32,10/24,10/32,and 1/4x20(ex item # 0701032LN for the
10/32).

I have not determined how shear resistant these nylon fittings are, but
I have ordered some samples to test. If they work, I would LIKE to use
them in the following areas:

- cable cover (the one that runs down the center of the rear floor for
the elevator cables)
- interior trim
- strut fairing (mentioned by C. Dixon)
- the trim pieces that are under the elevator
- interior inspection plates
- Rudder and Elevator trim????

Any other ideas? If I do use these nylon bolts/nuts/fittings I will be
inspecting them frequently.

Charles,

Can you give me a list of were you will us these nylon nuts and bolts? I
thought of one on the control column, for control movement stops.

How much of a weight savings do you think this would Be? Would it be worth
The effort?
