Mike I think the plans call for RV1410 rivets but these only have a 1/8"
grip. RV1414 rivets have a 3/8" grip. On my plane 13 of these rivets failed
by having the heads shear off I replaced them using RV1410's again but I
keep a close eye on them and if they fail again I'm going to replace them
with solid rivets.
hope this helps Drew

Hi all

While inspecting my now clean fuselage I think I have a problem with the
rivets that hold the bottom skin to the front landing gear carrythroughs.
The amount of rivet sticking through inside the carry through is smaller
than I think is allowed. Can anyone tell me what rivet is supposed to be
used for this location or what is the min. amout of rivet that should be
clear after pulling the rivet ??? I cant find the section that says what
rivets size to use ??

Mike

Hard to tell by looking at it. If the thickness is more than 3/16"
(0.187") I use longer than standard rivets. As I recall it is 0.100 inch
for the tube + 0.040 inch + 0.020" so the standard rivet is OK for most
of it anyway.

If you still want to sell your 912S I have a friend who is interested in
one for his Zenair 601. Paul Sharpe can be reached at fly601@home.com
