[rebel-builders] What I learned this week! tailwheel

I will certainly do the same on my NEXT Rebel, although I will
likely use the standard Murphy tailwheel (it's a LOT lighter),
likely with a substitute pneumatic wheel & tire (Princess Auto
$4.95 cheapy !) !
Cheapo wheel did not work for me. Put new bearings in but the cheap
tires are not round and the tread comes off quickly (not in a way that
makes them more round...)

OTOH I am very happy with the $200+ 8" pneumatic Matco. Same tire as the
Scott 2200 and it also has adjustable swivel tension. Order the optional
wings for adjusting the break out angle or if you have a welder and too
much time, you can mod the standard ones.

Nothing wrong with MAM's wheel if you grease it often but it does tend
to sink in to soft ground at heavy weights and it definitely bounces
around and makes more noise than a pneumatic wheel. Not much weight
advantage IMO because MAM's solid wheel is surprisingly heavy compared
to a hollow pneumatic. I'd guess no more than 2 lbs lighter than the
Matco if that. In addition to what Ron said ;) it's easier to get the
tail down for landing with an aft c of g anyway.
