I have a similar problem, Tim, only much worse. There is an issue I've been
reluctant to throw out to any individual, much less the whole group.
However, following your brave example, I've summoned the courage to do it
this one time. Maybe the answer will help someone else get through this
difficult process too.

Ever since Wayne held forth on the list a couple years ago about the
importance of putting the smooth edge of all washers next to the material,
I've been having recurring nightmares in which I fear all my washers may
not
be oriented correctly, causing me to wake up terrified in a cold sweat.
The
problem is so severe that once I was found apparently sleep walking in the
hangar at 3 AM, peering intently at one washer after another!

Does anyone else have this problem? There must be others who suffer as I
do.
Is there any remedy? I've tried everything I can think of, including
exhaustive inspections (while awake too) over and over, but even that
brings
no relief. (At first I blamed it all on Wayne, but eventually I realized
that might not be completely fair.)

I hope I can count on this group for thoughtful, kind and gentle support.
Please help!

Ron

PS - Perhaps I should wait another 25 days before sending this, but... I
just can't go on like this.

I would be willing to bet that of the hundreds of kits completed before
Wayne's sage advice regarding proper installation of washers was posted to
the list, there are at least a few that have washers installed the wrong
way. ;-) And as the NTSB accident database will show, Murphy's kits don't
just fall out of the sky.

Wow, thanks, Wayne! That's what I like about this group. Quick answers from
people with experience fixing things correctly, selflessly contributing
obscure techniques that they have used successfully themselves, again and
again. I'll go try that right now, and stay with it, side effects be
damned. If anything I write on the list in the next couple of weeks seems a
little disjointed or otherwise more off-the-wall than usual -- even for me
-- well, you'll know why.

PS - OMG, this is like sooo embarrassing.

[rebel-builders] burdens [was "I have a request"]

Well, this was another silly attempt to lob in some laughs [Ed.: Duck,
pathetic humor incoming!], by satirizing myself -- see I really _do_ think
of Wayne's advice every time I put on a washer. Trying for humor via email
is always dicey, and can easily go over some line or other [Ed.: Experience
speaks]. I certainly do appreciate Tim's misplaced but very courteous
reluctance to load up the list with seemingly narrow issues (certainly not
the case on that one, Tim) and Ted's lamenting the "me too" type.

On the other hand, there is a refreshing (and brief) social aspect to this
list that provides a welcome relief from the sometimes grim trudging all in
this homebuilding stuff. Also, we're blessed with probably the lowest ratio
of true flame mails of any list I've been on. People do get their dander up
about MAM service sometimes (not without reason, I do understand...) but
even with that, the DELETE key cleans out extraneous stuff pretty easily.

Now about that next Builder's Meeting out there in, where was that?
Brampton, Ontario? I got the messagex [Ed.: Well, all of them actually] here
on the Olympic Peninsula in NW Washington and I'm still thinking about
attending. I wish I could RSVP now, but it looks like it's going to have to
be a last minute decision again. :-)

Cure or cause? Touching. Anyone who knows Ron recognizes he's trying to
get a talent contest going again. Not a bad try but he did fly with me
to Oshkosh ; ) with no bloody idea whatever of which way the washers
were installed. Something in the water around Sequim I suspect, or he's
getting awfully close to having to start the engine on that plane and
fly it away.
