spinner/cowl clearance

The spinner I have for my IO-540 engine has a backing plate which attaches to the starting ring. I have to trim the forward cowl to allow for clearance of the spinner backing plate. How much extra clearance should I allow for engine movement? i.e. how much does the forward engine move during starting/stopping, firm landings...?
