moose gear box

Post by kyle martin » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:12 pm

I am in the process of upgrading the gear box (from a 2500 to a 3500) with
(some of) murphys suggestions. i have installed the new gear leg saddles,
FUS 309B, which werent cheap, and I am considering dropping the $400cad for
two FUS 331 (ldg gear attch bracket), which is about a 1/4" thicker over all
than the original. I have seen photos of other peoples efforts to stiffen
the gear box side to side, but that doesnt really seem to be the issue. I am
more concerned with torsional stresses wanting to rip the brackets out of
the box (over time). Though I dont know for sure what the gear box is really
up against when this thing is on bushwheels or floats.

The saddles of the new FUS 309B bare the brunt of the gear drag now, instead
of the clamp and bolt, as before. I say, good. But the beefy-er FUS 331,
while good, I dont know that they are good enough by themselves. What else
have people done to address these issues?

Any thoughts on what other areas of the gearbox need attention?

Thank you.

Kyle
