Hello!

I'm proceeding down the tailcone in my Rebel construction and would like to
know if #30 holes can be drilled through the side skins (fus 22) and the
corner skins (fus 29).

I made the bulkhead doubler (fus-43) so that it's outer edge is just a hair
inside the notches in the onepiece bulkhead (fus-36). How's that?

I measured 5 5/8" down from the top of fus-36. The line drawn at this spot
on
the
doubler comes too close to the edge of the doulber for rivets in the area of
the lightening hole (I cut out a little material so the flange wouldn't hit
the doubler there). Could I safely move this line up to achieve edge
distance?
Also the placement of the line looks different than in the manual. Mine goes
about 3/4 of the way up the large notch cutout area.

I'm looking ahead at the fin offset. I haven't even begun thinking seriously
about an engine. Do I have to guess now to allign the fin or can it be
changed
easily later. How about skipping it for now?

Thanks,
Dan

I went through the same thing, I found it was beneficial to connect the
fin as it makes sure the bulkhead is at the proper offset and angle. I
put my fin on straight and when I built my engine mount I added a degree
of offset to counteract the "P factor". The worst case scenario is a
small fixed trim tab on the rudder later. The advantage is you can
complete the tailcone and leave your engine options open.

That leads into one of my biggest oversights. You should be deciding on
and getting your engine now. I waited and the fuselage has been
complete for 2 years and I am just putting the finishing touches on my
own auto conversion. It is OK if you are going to go with a Lycosauris
and you call Murphy and say send me an engine mount, cowl kit etc. (or a
912). If I had firmed up my engine choice sooner and done some engine
development work while I was completing the fuselage I would be in the
air now.
