[rebel-builders] Trim Tab motor location

Tim,

What is the value of the proposed mod? We might speculate the tab could be
more balanced, whether aerodynamically or load-wise on the servo, or tab, or
whatever, but that may not be the case. I'm no aero engineer, but for
example, the off center, asymmetric location may beneficially dampen or
suppress flutter potentials in the tab, or elevator, or both. Moving the
location of force & drag may not be significant, but moving the weight might
be.

In short, this is not a place I would freelance, especially for little if
any benefit, without knowing for sure what will happen. And, if you want to
get it flying you don't have time for that in depth research. At least on
this latter point, I speak from vast experience. :-)

Hello, Group:

Quick question: I am at the point where it is time for me to cut out the
left elevator skin and make the trim tab.
As I look at the manual, it makes me wonder why the trim motor and the arm
are located so far off center, left to right.

I understand that one side of the support structure for the tab motor is a
standard elevator rib, and the other side is an auxiliary rib installed to
complete the support. But why is the aux rib offset towards the root end of
the elevator?

If it were set to the outside of the standard rib, the trim tab attachment
horn would be more in the center of the tab.

I am thinking that I will "free lance" and put the aux rib outboard of the
standard rib, and this will put the mechanism more in the center of the
tab.

Am I missing something important?

Thanks

Does the rib flange direction dictate where it goes? It might be less
likely to be damaged by stuff thrown by the mainwheels when it's set
inboard. Other than that I doubt it makes any difference.
