[rebel-builders] Rebel- CONT. IO-240 MOTOR MOUNT
Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:07 pm
Hi Cris !
Will the O-200 even FIT on the mount for the IO-240 ???
I'd be surprised, but maayyyyyybeeee.....
If it does, you have NO worry about the O-200 being too
light !! The Rebel worked nicely with the Rotax 912, which
weighed 128 lb - - HALF what the O-200 weighs, so there's
no problem with C of G. You could/should leave your battery on
the firewall, especially if you use a small Odyssey battery...
shorter wires, less weight, and simpler wiring. You don't need
a sealed box for those batteries - I've seen nice ones made
of Lexan (makes inspection easy !) . :-)
Sorry Drew, but DON"T EVEN THINK ABOUT building a
Rebel without the rear floor ! It makes the lower fuselage
into a box beam that more than DOUBLES its strength !
This has been proven by calculation AND in practice !

Builders,
Murphy DOES have a motor mount for the IO-240, but I am planning on the
O-200 in an effort to meet LSA. The Cont. IO- 240 engine weighs appx. 30
lbs. heavier than a Cont. 0-200. If I use MAMs IO-240 motor mount with
an engine that weighs 30 lbs. less, will the Rebel tend to have an AFT
C of G. ? Cris Tucker 719R
