fiberglass tip

I too was fiberglass phobic until two procedures were learned.

First, unless the surface to be built/repaired is nearly flat, cut the glass cloth at 45 degree angles to the weave. That lets it be shaped around curves much more easily.

Second, most of my problems were resin sags and drip and cloth sliding around, off, and coming up off the surface. This was remedied by cutting a piece of sheet plastic more than twice as big as the glass cloth piece. Place the plastic on a smooth surface. Place the cloth on the plastic so that the plastic can be folded over it. Wet the cloth with catalyzed resin and spread it over the cloth to wet it completely. Then fold the plastic over the wet cloth and press the sandwich by hand stroking the resin to the edges. Then carry the sandwich to the work area, open it up and peel the cloth off the plastic and apply. The cloth will have just the correct amout of resin, it seems to stick to sufaces where applied much better, and no runs.

You can wipe the plastic and reuse it for smaller parts.
