[rebel-builders] Recommended Airspeeds

Gary, until you fly yours, I would just go with the published specs on MAM's
website. They are not far off. There are great variations in performance
numbers between different planes depending on engine condition and how it is
propped, and maybe how some are built, too. If you go back in the archives,
you will see a lot of pilot reports, including from me, and they are all
over the place.

I did a lot of side by side flying comparisons (the only true test) with
local Rebels here with my old 150 hp 320, and none could outperform it. In
one case, I could even outperform a 160 hp Rebel on wheels while mine was on
amphibs, including speed. He had a McCaulley prop, and I think that was his
main limitation. If you want performance, don't over pitch your prop. I had
the 74 X 54 Senenich and it outperformed other Rebels that had 74 X 56 ones,
even with 160 hp.

I am emailing all to see what airspeeds that they are achieving,

realizing that they vary by weight, power, etc. My plane has a

Lycoming O320 (160 HP), Sensenich Metal Prop (74 x 61) and

is on wheels.



So I am interested in knowing what I can expect for the following:



Slowest Descent Power Off? 65 Kts?



Most Flight Time per Gallon? ? Kts



Steepest Climb? 50 Kts (10 degree flaps) ?



Best Rate of Climb? 60 Kts ?



Cruise Climb? 100 Kts?



Shallowest Glide? 60 Kts?



Most Miles per Gallon? ? Kts



Economy Cruise? ? Kts



Normal Cruise? 106 Kts? 65% power?





Based on the literature, I have inserted some figures but would like to

get some feed back as to what to expect. These figures also come from

a placard that one can purchase from, I think, Aircraft Spruce.



I am just planning ahead to the day that I can test the above figures
