[rebel-builders] Rebel - 0-200 MOTOR MOUNT

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:02 pm

Hi Cris !

You will be BETTER than "might" ! There was a Rebel flying here
for one year with a freshly overhauled Continental O-200 on 1800
AMPHIB FLOATS !!! After one season, he tossed it & installed
a Lycoming O-320 .... but it DID fly well enough for that year.
Doubt that he took heavy passengers & luggage, though...
Soooo - that O-235-L2C should work much better, with 16 or
18 more ponies. There are several O-235-L2C Rebels flying on
1800 floats... again, not on high mountain lakes ...

You (and the other 5 guys who are hoping/planning to use the O-200)
should be "OK". Of course, the performance will be significantly
better if you go to a 100 hp. Rotax 912-ULS - it will make the
Rebel about 150 lb lighter, even with full electrics !! ;-P ;-)
(You knew I was going to say that ! ;-) )

Yes, I do have a Cont. 0-200 that I am considering using on my Rebel.
There are several reasons. I am trying to keep it light enough to
qualify as LSA, 1320 lb. gross. I am using the std. bungee gear setup and
have cut my fuel bays back to "two" bays per wing. I am located in the
Southeastern USA and my field elevation is 500 feet above sea level. I
never intend on putting the aircraft on floats. Additionally, my weight
is 150 lbs. and fly alone 99% of the time. This is why I think 100 hp
"might" do the job. Cris 719R

Sorry, I don't mean to get off track on your post. If you have an O-200 I
can understand your question. But as far as the others, I personnally
don't see much sense in using the O-235/IO-240 unless you have access to
one for cheap. I have an O-235 L2C I had thought about installing in my
Rebel (whenever I get to that point) but after looking at the weight vs.
the O-320 it is sensless to me. May as well use the O-320 and if you are
worried about fuel....that little thing called the throttle can easily be
pulled back. I recently was on a 5+ hour tour with a bunch of Super Cubs
and I was flying my O-300 powered 172. Flying at their speeds I burn a
little over 5 gph. I guess what I am trying to say is it is nice to have
the HP when you need it....just don't have to use it all the time if you
are concerned with fuel prices. I am waiting for Ron to get his Jabiru
powered Rebel flying so I can get a report. :)? The power to weight ratio
may be an option for me since I will be on floats/skis the majority of the
time. Keith R661

Another thing...

The IO-240 is about the same price as the O-320... With 25-35 hp less...
The O-235 L2C could also be "pump" to 125 hp... The Jabiru 6
cylinders also
show 120 hp

Hello

As I know, it should fit. May be the IO-240 had some mod for the
accessories... but the "mount" should be the same (as per Franklin
0-240
too).

I do not understand that Murphy tech don't know that... THEY should know
or
at least find the answer for you!

Rebel Builders, I contacted Murphy and inquired about a motor mount
for a Continental 0-200. Murphy replied that they do now have a motor
mount for the Cont. IO-240. Would the IO-240 mount work for the 0-200? Do
any builders know the answer to this question?
Thanks, Cris 719R
