[rebel-builders] build schedule

Post by Richard Wampach » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:02 pm

As Ralph suggests make the plane maintainable.

The few extra ounces of weight it will add to install nut plates or
rivnuts will be worth it, when you are working alone.
A few access panels strategically located, (with doublers in the
stressed areas) can make the difference of making repairs in a few
minuets or many hours.

For now enjoy the building experience, have fun, savor the satisfaction
of making things work out to your delight. When it comes time to start
flying you will want to fly, fly, fly! You will not want to spend hours
and hours fixing & wishing that you had done those little extras
earlier.

I would highly recommend that as much as possible under the panel be
completed prior to adding any "lumps" on the floor. (Including the
pedals and elevator cabling) Also, as someone said earlier, make the
control column removable so you can get back under the panel or at the
firewall rear if required.

There are a number of places where forward thinking of future
maintenance / repair possibilities allow access to be built in during
construction. An example is our marker beacon antenna is on the
fuselage bottom and held with nuts from the inside. Now covered with
the inner floor there are 3 #40 holes drilled in the inner floor over
those nuts. If access for antenna removal is ever required I know just
where to open up for nut driver access.
