guys it looks like you have done a very nice job,but why go through
all that work to make something that is very simple into something
very complicated, every time you add something you give one more point
of failure, you can not inspect the cables very well,or change them
when needed, you have just added extra wieght!.be careful its not a 747
and when your done dont be surprised at the wieght.

Hi Ted,

I'd be very interested in seeing those pics. I intend on doing the sane
thing.

Thanks,
Fred

Nice bulkhead baggage retainer. I will use something similar on my Rebel.
I do note that the cables (on the Moose?) run under the top floor. Is that
Standard on the Moose or something that you did yourself?

Thanks for the picture.

I uploaded a pic (Area 109 - S/M Interiors) of one of my baggage area
vinyl/canvas bulkhead closure fixtures (long description, but I don't know
what to call it). Will have lightweight materials (e.g. sleeping bags,
jackets, pillows) in the extended area b/t bulkheads C & E. Hence this
"fixture" helps to insure those light yet bulky materials don't slide back
into the tailcone area.

Have another similar "fixture" to install at bulkhead C (obviously forward
of the one you see in the attached picture) to keep heavier stuff from
sliding back toward the tail. Also have baggage area tie-down fixtures in
the floor for the main baggage area to insure heavy stuff doesn't move
around in flight.

I went to a custom canvas shop (they make boat stuff), originally to find
a
different type of fastener. Ended up with this arrangement after talking
at
length with one of the owners of the shop. Got screwed (in my opinion) on
price for two of them fully made up (borders, reinforced patches,
fittings,
etc) but at least they look professional. Some type of heavy-duty vinyl
that is the same stuff used for truck covers (so they tell me). Really
heavy duty material.

[rebel-builders] Moose: Elevator / Rudder cable runs/pulleys

by Ted Waltman
Reasons for te hanges in cable routing:

- Allows us to extend baggage area 2 additional bulkheads. Extra space for light-weight, bulky items.
- Allows us to adjust rudder travel/tension with the addition of turnbuckles

Total extra weight added: maybe 4 to 6 pounds--not a whole lot with a useful load of perhaps 1,400 lbs.

All the cables are readily inspected with the removal of perhaps 10 screws and the release of a few webbing straps (in my case). In a "std" Moose, one has a rear door at bulkhead C/D that also would preclude instant cable inspection.

Not trying to refute your points; simply providing other information.

Thank you for your input Dennis.

Ted
