[rebel-builders] fin attach

correction;the front attach bracket doesn't reach the fus 43 bulkhead
(not fus 36)The only thing
I can see is either the horizontal bulkhead is too long or the pre
punched holes in the bulkhead
are in the wrong place.Anyone seen that before?Any problems using a
3/16' spacer to fill the gap?
Would have to do the same for the stabs.

thanks
Jason

Mounted the horizontal bulkhead, stood the fin up to it and the front

by 3/16".The fus 30 wrap stays flat on the table with the rest of the
tail cone doesn't it?

Slightly baffeled

Hi Jason !

DO NOT USE SPACERS !!! Have a look in the archives -
there's a very good chance the problem is with the bulkhead
positioning. There was some email about that exact problem
within the last year ....

Not all Fus-30's are perfectly flat on the table from what I can see on
flying Rebels. I do recall bending the stab forward attach brackets a
bit to get a good fit. Also recall adjusting the vertical fin forward a
bit I think for same reason.

Thanks Ken,Bob
It is the positioning of the bulkhead. The pre punched holes in the
solid bulkhead are exactly 3/16' off of centre on the flanges, the
exact distance I am out.I think with a little finesse I can make 'er
work.I thought the holes looked a little close to the edge when I first
clecoed it on.Should have checked. Can't complain though,It's amazing
how well everything has lined up so far.

Thanks so much for the input, greatly appreciated.

Hi Jason,

So is this a manufacturing problem? If so confirming it's FUS-43? Thanks,
Craig

Hi Craig
Don't think it's a problem ,just check the edge distance of the pre
punched holes in the one piece bulkhead(fus 36?)before
you drill the fus 29 wraps.doing it again I would mock up the fin and
the horizontal bulkhead(fus31)before I drilled the skins.
My manual said to drill the holes in the fus 36 but they were already
pre punched.hope this is some help.

I ran into this too. I'm dashing to a meeting so can't recall details -- I
think the problem was that just a minor difference in the angle of the aft
most bulkhead translates to the mismatch you (and I and others) run into.
That angle is determined by a couple holes only inches apart. Try shifting
the angle of that aft bulkhead and you'll see the fix come into place.

I documented my fix at: http://mae.ucdavis.edu/ransom/Murphy/11.06/

Correction: Detail of what I ran into is better described in
http://mae.ucdavis.edu/ransom/Murphy/10.06/
In particular starting with filename 509c and diagrammed in the last file
in that folder 'fin_fit_problem'

My post earlier this morning is wrt the fix.
