Ben,
I've been on that very flight. I was raised here in Alaska. In 1999 I was
living in NV and took the Inside Passage cruise and took the Misty Fjords
floatplane ride in Ketchikan. We landed on the same lake, I got out and
stood on the floats and knew at that moment that I was moving back and that
one day I would be flying a ploat plane here. It was truly a life chnging
moment for me! BTW, I also got sick in the back of the beaver! ha ha
Anyhow, here I am (sort of) on the virge of completing that dream!
Thanks for the reminder. I needed it. Craig Walls

Subject: [rebel-builders] changes
Recently I think Bob tossed out a question something along the lines of
'what would make the Rebels sell better?' ...hope I've not made that up,
but two things keep coming to my head on the subject.
One, I'm still working on the #$%#@ floor channels (forward cabin) and
admittedly I've had interruptions ....and am almost done. I keep thinking
of the Discovery Channel show "How It's Made", marveling with envy over the
mass production methods for some of their feature items, and I wonder if
they were to do a show on "How Not to make it", the floor channels could be
their debut.
I don't mean to hit this too whiny; I know the numbers aren't there to
improve this much. But ...someday... wouldn't it be nice if this build
section was streamlined. One possibility would be to have instructions for
making wood spacers that would jig all the L tabs and allow for them to be
installed to the bulkheads (or at least holes drilled) while the bulkheads
were still flat on the table. There's a lot of time sunk into getting the
tabs and channels vertical, let alone measuring width placement, not to
mention that the channel holes could/should be prepunched into the skins,
-- hey, even prepunch the tabs ....not to mention one is leaning into the
cabin a bit awkwardly to get to the floor area behind seats.
OK, that sounded farfetched maybe. So number 2 idea is easier: Point them
to stuff like this and even I can do 20k rivets....

Thanks Ben !
Close enough ! Sounds better than whatever
I said anyway .... ;-)
I like #2 !! Will see about more exciting videos...
Everyone please send in pics of your flying Rebels,
Mooses, ...
One tip - a local builder took a 5 ft strip of 1" aluminum
angle (.020 or .025) and ran it through his drill press
using a template. Put all the holes in at once, then
cut off ready-made angle tabs, & rounded corners ...
a bit easier than cutting bits & drilling after. They
were fastened to the channels, and used as a guide
for drilling the bulkheads.
Appreciate all suggestions like this. Several years ago,
Mr. Murphy actually mentioned programming the
CNC punch to cut the tabs on the ends of the channels,
as well as several other big time savers - he is always
thinking of ways to improve the kits ! Unfortunately,
you need a lot of orders to cover the cost of all the
design changes, and the economy just isn't helping !! :-(
I'm hoping we can get the sales rolling again, and
start improving the building experience -
the flying experience is already GREAT !!! :-)
Keep rivetting so you can join us !

One of the things that I had done was make a template out of steel and
push it into the corner on top of the corner then drilled through the
template, It went much better but still is labour intensive.
