Tank skins

Ian. I don't know what vintage of fuel tank method you have, so I presume you are sure about the rear and outboard edges. The main spar edge should be overlapping at the same amount as the wing skins. Don't forget that the root edge needs to overhang the root rib to allow for attachment of the root fairings without putting holes in the tanks. If your spar edge overhangs past the main spar, unlike the wing skin that will bend down out of the way when the leading edge skin overlaps, the .040 tank skins will force a sharp "hump" in the leading edge skin. If this is the case with yours, then you will want to trim it back even with the bend radius on the main spar.

G'day

I have a query regarding the trimming of the tank skins. I understand that 3/8" is trimmed from the rearmost edge and the outboard edge, but does the front edge, where it attaches to the main spar need trimming?

G'day

Thanks Wayne for your explanation. I have all the other dimensions OK except for the leading edge. I will trim the leading edge to match with the spar radius.

I have decided to go 5 bays-100 gal,my tank skins are for 6 bays-120
gal. Thanks for the help on that fork in the road. I will move the heaver
main rib to outer stn 7 and the overlap of the tank skin will be on an
outer dry stn 8,does it matter about the tank skin overlapping out side
the fuel cell area??

Bill, even though you bought the 6 bay tank option, the wing skin is
probably still full size so you have to cut it anyhow. If you are committing
to 5 bays per side I would shear the .040 tank skin down by the 11 15/16
(approx) to suit so it's easier sealing the tank with the wings skin off.
Before doing any shearing....Remember you want those tanks skins hanging off
the root rib by 1/2" to 5/8" for attaching the wing/fus fairings and off the
outboard tank rib enough for the tank skin/wing skin overlap per the manual.

Cheers,
Wayne

Hi all
could anyone confirm for me that the tank skins are to be trimmed
flush with the root end
of the wing top and bottom? This is probably a no brainer but the
manual is a little fuzzy
on this point .

thanks
