spinner diameter

On the C-172-I, which seems to be where my prop came from, Cessna chose
to use a 13" spinner. On my plane, covering only the front for the
engine would take just a 9" spinner or so. Same engine. Anyone know why
Cessna used a bigger spinner than seems necessary?
