seat rails and floor channels again

I've hit on the archives and MAM pretty heavily, and still am perplexed on
this subject...

It's difficult to reference MAM's Fig 12.15.1 channel layout as that
amounts to defining how it can't be right, at least if one wants to end up
with a floor channel under each of the 8 rows of seat rail rivets (2 seats
x 2 rails x 2 channels). The 10-5/8 dimension matches the outer edge rivet
rows for a pair of rails (on one seat), and that is almost all that is
certain from that figure.

One clue that seems reasonable is Figure
22.3.1 where MAM shows the outer rivet row of a seat rail going
straight into the outer-most floor channel, matched up with the inside
corner wrap. If the rails were placed in this way, we also get the pilot's
side 7-1/8" dimension called out in 12.15.1. Good. But if I were to place
the passenger side seat rail in the same way, it does not meet the 6-1/8"
dimension in 12.15.1. Furthermore, that 6-1/8" dimension would require
that the outermost row of rivets on right rail of the passenger side be
into the corner wrap.

My temptation is to just place the outside channels and rails so that the
outer edge of each outer rail, is directly over the outermost channel as in
Figure 22.3.1. Then place the other channels such that I match to be under
the rails in all other places. This doesn't give me the 6-1/8 dimension on
the passenger side and I can't imagine that matters. I have to wonder if
I'm missing something -- I surely don't want to screw up such that I don't
leave room on the pilot's side for the aileron push-pull tube.

If this puzzle makes sense to anyone, I'd really appreciate feedback.
Thanks,
-Ben/ 496R

seat rails and floor channels again

I made a mess of my initial question on this. I'm trying to figure out
the proper side-to-side placement of the seats. It seems the outer edge of
the pilot's side seat rail lines up with the web of the outer-most floor
channel (the channel that ties in with the tapered corner wrap aft of the
bend). This jives with what Ken mentioned in the archives (2/9/2000,
searching subject for 'floor channel'). I'm assuming I'm interpreting this
right and it will leave enf room for the aileron push/pull tube. ??

But I don't see how the passenger side seat can be placed one inch further
outboard as called for in the manual (6 1/8"). This would put it's outside
rail over nothing but the inside corner wrap, at least for the part aft of
the rail bend.

Thanks again,
-Ben/ 496R

seat rails and floor channels again

Ken
I got home this evening and, after reading your message and taking a fresh
look at the lines I laid out for the channels, I realized I was completely
brain farting on this. Embarrassing! The floor channel figure (12.15.1)
shows the doubled channel pieces on the wrong sides of the dimensioned
lines for seat rails, and I couldn't easily shake that. Thanks all for
hanging with me on this. I'll post what I consider a corrected version of
that figure soon.

Hi Ben
The outboard rivet line of both outboard seat rails went through the
corner wrap, the floor panel, and into the underfloor outboard channel
on my bird. I do recall that the left side corner wrap extended farther
inboard than the right side corner wrap. I put two channels under each
seat rail so that all seat rail rivets went into channels. And I
extended the corner wrap inboard far enough to go under both rivet lines
of the outboard seat rails. My dual channels were placed front to front
so they essentially made a square tube under the seat rails. I did see a
later manual that had two channels under each seat rail placed back to
back which I think is more common. I did not want the seat rails to
twist even a little which might tend to cause binding when moving the
seat with weight in them.
