The fuel flow that I quoted before was at full throttle on climb out at 18.5
gph. That is higher than what the Lycoming manual says at 16.5 for the 180
hp engine. I think that is due to the new tapered fin EXP ECI cylinders.
They have a venturi intake seat design which is supposed to flow 7% more.

So I think that translates into more take-off hp, and I am definitely more
than pleased with the performance. My O-320 did only 13 gph at full
throttle.

But at cruise speed and leaning, the fuel flow comes way down, and seems to
be better than the O-320. I will confirm that on my upcoming trips.

No, I don't have cold induction. It is still carbureted. But the engine is a
Superior clone (other than the cylinders) which is supposed to have a more
efficient sump design, too.

Hmmm, am starting to feel like a salesman here...

Hi Walter
I've been wondering how things are settling in with your new engine. The
early reports of fuel use were a little crazy sounding. But I guess you're
saying now that you are actually burning less than with the previous
carbureted Lyc 0-320? By sump design are you referring to cold induction?
Good to hear ...enjoy your vacation,

That should get a few hours on my new engine. It's running well. The
trips will give me a chance to gather a few more stats on performance and
fuel usage, too. So far, besides the extra performance, I've noticed that
this engine (O360) is also more fuel efficient. I think this is due
primarily to the EI and the Superior clone sump design which is supposed to
give you more even fuel distribution to each cylinder.
Anyway, hope to see some of you again soon.

Walter
