[rebel-builders] RE: Making your own fiberglass tailspring
Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:43 pm
Hi Rob I haven't flown with the aluminum spring but I believe the concensus
is that it is a bar and not a spring. Apperaently it can be fixed by
grinding a taper to thin it out a bit. Lots of info in the archives. I have
the fiberglass spring and it is a solid lay up exactly the same shape as
your aluminum spring. There aren't any hard points just use the large wood
washers to spread the loads.

material?All,
My kit came with the current solid aluminum tailspring...how many of you are
flying with this part? Is the consensus that this is an inferior spring
figureNot having ever seen the fiberglass counterpart, can someone tell me
whether this was a solid part, or hollow and formed around a mandrel or
something?
I'm also wondering about the wheel- and fuselage-attach areas and the
reinforcement required when you put bolts through it. Were there any hard-
points imbedded in the lay-ups?
