[rebel-builders] another new Rebel is born

Congrats again to Mike !

It was a long time coming, but worth it !!

Prop might work out given a bit of flying ...

Hope he's getting those hours flown off - be nice to see it
at the Builders Meeting on May 25th .... ;-)

one very happy couple. There's a picture in the completed section.

Hi Mike !

Congratulations again !

You must have one exceptional O-320 if the 74 x 47 Prince
is too fine !!! Before changing toooo much, you might want
to borrow an optical tach - they're only about $50 if you decide
to buy one - and check the rpm against your tach ....

As for the static - good luck ! I've given up trying for
a good position - just cut the static lines off inside the cockpit !
Never had a Rebel that gave accurate ASI with external static
ports - tried lots of positions & configurations - flush, raised,
sheltered ... maybe a horizontal probe from the vertical fin,
like gliders use, might work .... ;-) It's just not that
important - unless you're planning IFR...
( Incredibly Freaking Risky ..... as opposed to just
Very Freaking Risky ! ;-) )

I stole that definition from John G. - blame him for that ! :-)

Thanks Drew,

Yes, I was thinking that I should get the news out before this. You know
what thought did. To me, it won't really be done until the 25 hours are
signed off. With weather and schedules, the hours are not going as fast as
I would like, but progress is being made. As Drew mentioned, the Prince 74
X 47 prop may be too fine, but it sure does climb! I also believe the ASI
is reading too high, but haven't had a calm enough day to calibrate it
accurately. I got static ports that are not flush mounted and I think that
is the problem.

I have not been a big contributor over the years, but I have learn a lot
by reading the digest. Thanks everyone, for contributing to a successful
lift-off. I am definitely smiling.

Sincerely, Mike. :-)

Rebels are like that !! :-) I often see about 1,600 fpm,
light & solo .... and it does bring a smile !

Cabin pressure is usually pretty close to outside, except
when you open the windows !! ;-) The instruments then
jump a bit, and settle down about where they were ....

A few runs with GPS will help calibrate ... Gee, I guess
you'll just have to go flying AGAIN !!! ;-) :-)

Thanks Bob,

I had the tach checked and it is reading accurately. With the climb rate,
it's almost like being a helicopter again.

I could easily disconnect the static lines in the cabin. I forget, does
cabin pressure tend to be higher or lower than ambient? Definitely no IFR.
