[rebel-builders] float reinforcement

Post by Ken » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:38 pm

Hi Keith
The idea was mostly to strengthen the bulkhead around that notch just
above the rear float attach points. It was too late for me to do Wayne's
method on the web face of the bulkhead.

The skin doublers are either 0.025 or more likely 0.032. Four pieces of
6061T6 but most anything you have on hand would do the trick I'm sure.
One for each corner of the four pieces of skin that come together there.
(Actually I also used a couple more 0.020 pieces underneath them to make
the skin surfaces even. I'd guess that my pieces are about 3" wide. The
bottom two perhaps 4" high. The top two maybe 6" high to get a few
rivets in above that notch in the bulkhead. All 4 pieces are somewhat
triangular shaped. I can't seem to find a photo although there might be
one on dcsol as someone asked for one a year or 3 ago. I can get a photo
next week if you wish.

During your visit to Grand Rapids MN last summer, I noted
the reinforcement that you had installed at the rear pickup
points on your aircraft. Would you please tell me what
thickness the material is, and is it 6061T6?
Also because of the compound curve I am guessing that
you split them?
And finally what size did you make them, above, and below
the pickup point and side to side.

Thank you. Keith

Ken: Thanks for the information, I believe that I can
manage without the photos, but I appreciate the
offer.

Thank you. Keith
