[rebel-builders] Rebel 295

First thing I would do is check the alignment. Measure the distance from center to center across the front and then across the back. As far as I know they should be the same otherwise you have too much toe in or toe out, either of which will accellerate the wear.

John's on amphibs!

Pressure is right John @ 45psi. Make sure the front pivot is constantly
greased so the grease acts as a dampner for shimmy. There doesn't seem to be
a right and wrong in regards to the "wavey washers" being too tight.. or too
loose on the pivot shafts.

Another option that has been tried, I'm told successfully, is to mill the
pivot shaft attach block with a slight angle on the bolting face. This will
let the pivot shaft "trail" slightly..... like I like on tailwheels to get
them to behave.

Yup, as Wayne says, make sure you enough wavey washers and make the pivot
assembly tight enough so that there is no shimmy. But not too tight, or you
won't be able to steer.

I have seen this over and over again with new amphib installations, where
people quickly wear out their front tires because of the shimmy. I have
almost 500 hours on mine, on pavement, and still not worn out, so they do
last if set up right.

Hi John if it's conventional gear we run about 24 lbs - some of us actually
had less but there was a few flat tires on the Ramble and Ken felt that the
tires had maybe rotated on touch down a little. I had a flat in Florida when
I arrived at Sun N'Fun and yes I know I had around 20 lbs. Also the tubes in
mine were 8;50 versus the 800 and it looked like there was a grease in it.

If it's amphibs - I have know idea.

Cheers
Jim

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll put my co-pilot to work and check it out.
