[rebel-builders] proseal shelve life

Post by Richard Wampach » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:38 pm

Rebecca Brownell [brownell@candlelight.ca]

Pro Seal shelve life is usually 3 to 9 months. It will depend how long
they have had it sitting on the shelve. The can should have an
expiration date on it.

However many persons, including myself, have had good success if kept
refrigerated, or even in a freezer (it is not water based so I don't
worry to much about the 32* F freezing thing). I have known of cases
that people have used the stuff after 3 years and still had good
results.
Mixed and stored in a freezer, I have seen it workable for about 2
weeks.

Keep in mind, the cure process is related to the temperature.
At about 70* F you can use the time rated on the can ie: 890-B-1/2 means
1/2 hour. -B-2 means 2 hours. At 80 or higher the working time is
reduced. At 40* F the time is extended considerably, but will be harder
to spread. On real hot days you may want to try placing your container
of sealant into a iced container, or pan of cold water

Mind you now this is not an endorsement, and it will probably raise a
whole lot of controversy, you be the final judge.

I used almost 2 Quarts to re-seal my Moose tanks (12 wing bays)120
gallon capacity, 60 per side.
The wings built in the Philippians had a call out ---they might
leak---and the did. So the fix was to apply more product over the
original stuff and do leak checks till you beat them into submission!

I think I heard someone say they did both tanks with a quart but think
it is rare. I'd buy a quart for the first tank or two quarts if doing
them both together.
