[rebel-builders] Planning electrical wiring

Post by Jean Poirier » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:38 pm

Hello

I very far of a elect. Specialist, but the electrical forum of this spring
Sun'Fun strongly recommend to have at least 6" between electrical and
antenna wires... not all in the same tube!

[rebel-builders] Planning electrical wiring

Hi Roger. On 612e, most of the fuselage wiring runs ab obove the floor along the pilot side just above the left tank fuel line. It hides nicely on the inside wrap behind the aileron control tube.

I am working on the tail cone of Elite 709. I am thinking that I
will enlarge some of the tooling holes in the bulkheads to
accommodate a rubber grommet and a 0.5-inch OD high-density
polyethylene tube for the wiring to the electric trim. I will
probably run this tube to the right of the centerline under the floor.

The cabin area looks like more of a problem because I will need a
larger tube (0.75-inch OD) to include antenna cables. Also, there
may be possible conflicts with control cables, fuel lines, and
control push rods. Then there is the issue of how to get around the
cabin carry-through structure, which supports the landing gear and
the wing. I would like to put the wiring under the floor, if
possible. How have others routed the wiring? What routing do you
recommend?

Hi Roger
I've routed all my cables above floor level. And I've separated the coax RF
cables from the other wiring to prevent as much interference as possible.
Just finished the second wing... moving in the right direction :-)

The gusset plates between the lower carrythru tubes and the upright/front
door post tube have a large hole in them between a couple sets of rivets.
You can drill this thru the upright tube without issue to pass your wires or
fuel lines through.

[rebel-builders] Planning electrical wiring

There are a lot of options. I have some wires below the doorsill running
through tubing in the space where the fuel lines normally run. Half inch
tube doesn't hold a lot of wires though.
I also have a bunch above the door including the VHF antenna coax. They
run up in front of the door pillar and then back through to the inside
of the roof between the windshield and the roof.
Third option is where I run my fuel lines - above the floor left of the
left seat and underneath the front to rear aileron push pull tube.
Yet another option for some things on a Rebel is right down the center
above the floor beside the elevator control cables.
Don't forget to place an extra wire or string in any tubing for pulling
extra wires through later because I guarantee you will want to...

Thanks to those who replied. It looks like there are several options.

Ron Shannon

[rebel-builders] Planning electrical wiring

Post by Ron Shannon » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:38 pm

Roger,

Relative to electrical planning in general, you and/or others may find the
spreadsheet I'm using to be useful. It contains multiple pages (tabs at the
bottom) for things like load analysis (current on different buses, wire
gauges, fuses, etc.), switches (type, action, location, etc.), fuse block
assignments, and, among other things, wire runs.

On the wire runs page I keep track of the major wire routes in the plane and
what wires go there. I have columns for "over the doors" (L&R), forward door
posts (L&R). L&R wings, and such. That page has been useful to keep noise
generating wires away from audio signal circuits, the size of holes needed,
memory jog, etc.

The latest version can be downloaded from http://n254mr.com/node/192 The
contents are very much a work in progress -- constantly changing -- so don't
rely on the data, per se. Your mileage may vary, but the general
layout/structure may be useful. Email if you have any questions about it.

Ron
