New engine almost ready to fly

Post by Walter Klatt » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:37 pm

Ha, ha, I wish, but don't think it works that way. It will be interesting to
see how this one compares with fuel flow to the old one (when I go the same
speed). Because it is higher compression, and with the EI, I expect better
SFC numbers, but unfortunately the higher costs for avgas will more than
make up for that in dollars. Once it is broken in, though, I intend to use
mogas again, but the more expensive 91 premium.

Yes, getting close. Still have some finishing work to do on the spinner, and
then some bottom cowl work. Depending on how long I fiddle with this tach
problem, I might be ready to fly next weekend.

Surely you'll be going so fast now that you'll get there in no time and
actually save gas ;)
OK maybe not so much.
Sounds like you are about ready to try it.

Just got some 100LL avgas today at Langley, and paid 1.64 per litre. Looks
like it is going to be an expensive summer.

Started up my new engine for the first time, and everything seems to be
working, except my digital electronic tach. It is now fed from the EI, so
something obviously not right with the wiring. Will try to figure it out
tomorrow. My EI, though, has a display with an analog signal tach, so at
worst could fly just with that.
